Home Solar Panel

How to produce your own electricity by building your own home solar panel.

hi.. i just wanted to know , what does panel photovoltaic have to do with solar panels for my home.?

Hi i am looking to install solar panels for my home but would like to try and do it on my own to save a bit of money…
But I keep reading the term "panel photovoltaic" or "photovoltaic panel" I don’t know what this means, could someone give me some advice.

Hi Tas, A Photovoltaic panel is the individual collector, or cell, electrically connected. They form photovoltaic modules, better known as a solar panel. The photovoltaic panel is arranged in arrays, or many panels fitted together in a grid.

Now I feel smart.. In basic terms panel photovoltaic means solar panel..

I went to this site http://build-your-own-solarpanels.com

It will give you a better understand of solar power works.. Hope this helps

good , did any one tell you about all the rest of equipment you will Need ?
like a high capacity inverter ? a battery bank, ? a transfer switch,? amperage gage,s
dc current gages ,acid for the battery,s wiring for dc voltage, ?
NOPE ? all they say is go green put up solar cells,
a 35 watt soler cell is around $300, now that’s just one cell

A great resource for anyone trying to install their own solar system is Real Goods. a company which is one of the leaders in home solar and wind power equipment. Their catalogs have everything you need and they sell books with complete instructions. You can also call them with questions on what you need for your installation.

To give an actual answer to your question, in simple terms, there are two main types of solar panels. Photo voltaic or PV which convert light (solar energy) into electricity and thermal solar panels which heat water or water and antifreeze used mainly for heating domestic hot water or swimming pools. Thermal panels come in two main catagories, flat plate and evacuated glass tube. The latter are not quite so critical on sun direction and can have a higher performance, but are rather more expensive.

Both types require various associated kit in order to function and must be costed in to calculate the economics. Government Grants assuming you are in the UK as this is a UK & ireland site are available for both types and a new scheme comes into force next month to allow an annual claim to be made related to the annual energy saved.
